Maggie is Director of Financial Conduct Regulation, Director of Scottish Affairs and Director Life, Savings & Protection.

Maggie joined the ABI in July 2007 as Director of Life and Savings, and subsequently added Director of Consumer Strategy and Director of Scottish Affairs to her responsibilities. She was Acting Director General from July 2010 to April 2011, her second time in the role. In August 2011, she was appointed Director of Financial Conduct Regulation.

Maggie currently sits on the Calman Implementation Steering Group, chaired by the Secretary of State for Scotland which is looking at how the proposals for increased fiscal autonomy for the Scottish Parliament can be made to work. She is a governor of the Pensions Policy Institute and a trustee of the Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg) which helps schools teach financial capability.

Prior to joining the ABI, Maggie had two stints at Standard Life, as Head of Pensions Policy from 1989-2000 and as Head of Public Affairs and Communications from 2003-2007. In between, she was Pensions Development Manager for Scottish Equitable. Through working across industry and the ABI Maggie has extensive knowledge and experience of financial services products, policy issues and public affairs. Prior to joining ABI Maggie was a member of Alan Pickering’s pensions simplification review team and contributed to many other legislative and regulatory consultations including the Pensions Act 1995 and the FSA’s Treating Customers Fairly.

Maggie has been in financial services since graduating from Glasgow University in 1979. Her other roles prior to ABI included working for an employee benefits consultancy as an IFA, and on secondment to the Department of Work and Pensions. Maggie lives in Scotland and is married with three daughters and a variety of animals.
