Conference overview
The ABI’s fourth annual motor insurance conference will debate how to deliver ever better value to customers through difficult economic times. It will once again enable motor insurers, vehicle manufacturers and repairers, road safety experts, consumer groups, lawyers and related business sectors to debate with colleagues and hear expert presentations on the key challenges facing the sector in the coming year.
We are delighted to announce that our keynote speaker is Paul Clark MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, and Alastair Stewart, the ITV journalist and broadcaster, will return as chair the conference.
Key themes will include preparing for the new personal injury compensation system, tackling vehicle crime and uninsured driving, encouraging cleaner motoring, the changing distribution model and the new road safety agenda.
The conference will be of interest to everyone concerned with any aspect of motor insurance and delivering for customers.
Listed below are details of the morning and afternoon breakout sessions. The full conference programme and speaker biographies may be viewed or downloaded from the column on the right of this page.

Breakout 1 Session (a): PI Reform (Care and compensation): Improving the personal injury claims process
Following years of campaigning and debate, this workshop will outline the impeding reforms of the personal injury compensation system and how to prepare for them, and debate future developments in the light of the ongoing Jackson Review into the costs of civil litigation.
Breakout 1 Session (b) Tackling vehicle crime
As the recession continues, this workshop will explore the latest initiatives in tackling vehicle crime and debate the role that motor insurers can play in delivering this shared objective.
Breakout 1 Session (c) Improving road safety
As the Government prepares to launch its new road safety strategy for post-2010, this workshop will debate the key priorities for road safety and the role that insurers can play in preventing and reducing the severity of accidents.
Breakout 2 Session (a) Comparison websites: adding value?
Comparison websites are a growing distribution channel. In these difficult economic times, customers may be tempted to sacrifice value for lower premiums. This workshop will outline how the industry is working with comparison websites and other stakeholders to help customers purchase the right product for their needs, and consider what more needs to be done.
Breakout 2 Session (b) Tackling uninsured driving
As early signs indicate that we may have turned a corner in fighting uninsured driving, this workshop will debate how to maintain momentum in the light of the recession and how to prepare for the new offence of ‘keeping a vehicle without insurance’ due for implementation in 2011.
Breakout 2 Session (c) Delivering greener motoring
This workshop will address the challenge of encouraging greener motoring and explore the role that motor insurers can play in helping customers reduce their environmental impact.
