Building a resilient workforce

In Partnership with AXA PPP healthcare and Unum

The ABI, in partnership with AXA PPP healthcare and Unum, is holding a breakfast dialogue on building a resilient workforce on the morning of Thursday 12 January 2012.  Delegates will be able to engage in the debate on improving health and wellbeing at work and tackling the issues on why the UK has a poor record on long-term sickness absence.

Insurers are uniquely placed to empower individuals and employers to better manage workplace health and wellbeing, and be more financially resilient.  The insurance industry has a proven and established track record of reducing the levels and the costs of sickness absence, enabling people to stay in or get back to work, providing income to people when they cannot work, and making it possible for people to more appropriately protect themselves and their families against sudden illness or involuntary unemployment.

The event will have a panel that includes David Frost CBE from the Department for Work and Pensions' Independent Sickness Absence review, Dr Bill Gunnyeon CBE from the Department of Work and Pensions, Dr Steve Boorman of Abermed, Sarah Page of Prospect Trade Union, and James Freeston of AXA PPP healthcare and Jack McGarry of Unum, as well as an interactive session for delegates to discuss:

  • the implications of the Department for Work and Pensions' Independent Sickness Absence Review report’s recommendations
  • how sickness absence management has worked in practice
  • how the private sector can work alongside the State
  • what mechanisms can increase early intervention, incentives for employers to invest in their employees, Government support for education for employers and employees
  • the next steps

The breakfast dialogue will take place at the ABI Offices, 51 Gresham Street, London EC2V 7HQ.

Registration and a light breakfast will be available from 7.45am.

The dialogue will begin at 8.30am and run till 10am.
This event is complimentary to members and non-members. In the past, we have had delegates from: the care sector, local government, Members of Parliament and Peers, charities, academics, the financial services sector and government.
