ABI's staff change
The Association of British Insurers announced today that its Deputy Director General, Tony Baker, has decided to leave the Association at the end of February to seek a new challenge.
Tony Baker has worked for ABI and its predecessor organisation, the British Insurance Association, since 1971. Since 1989 he has headed ABI’s public affairs department and for the last six years has also been Deputy Director General.
An appointment of a new Deputy Director General will be announced shortly.
Mary Francis, Director General of the ABI, commented:
“Tony has made a major contribution to the industry and the Association over very many years and his experience and enthusiasm will be greatly missed. He has also had an important role in many areas where the industry interfaces with the public sector, especially in crime, fraud, arson and accident prevention. The Association wishes him well for the future.”
Tony Baker said:
“The new millennium is a good time to seek a new challenge after more than a decade heading ABI’s public affairs. I have greatly enjoyed working for the industry during a period of immense change. There have been difficult issues to resolve but also a great deal of positive progress has been made in many areas to the benefit of policyholders. The industry makes a major contribution to the well being of the great majority of people in this country and new initiatives are well under way which will build on this.”
