    Statement from Mary Francis, Director General of the ABI, on the government’s announcement today on flood defences

    Statement from Mary Francis, Director General of the Association of British Insurers (ABI), on the Government’s announcement today on flood defences:

    “Any plans by the Government to improve flood defences are welcome, and will help insurers to continue to provide affordable cover against the risk of flood damage.

    “However, it is not clear to us that the expenditure announced today represents an increase on previous plans.

    “We continue to believe that a further and significant increase in planned spending over a number of years is needed in order to meet the scale of the problems now facing people and their homes.”
