New electronic GP reports are good news for the consumer, doctors and insurers, says ABI

(132 words)

From today, new technology will speed up medical underwriting for term protection insurance.  The ABI says that this will benefit consumers, the insurance industry and doctors.  The introduction of eGPRs (electronic General Practitioner’s reports) will mean that insurers can obtain relevant medical information from GP practices, quickly and easily via a secure website.

Richard Walsh, Head of Health Insurance at the ABI commented,
“The use of web-technology to exchange medical information is good news for GPs, consumers and insurers alike.  This new development follows on from our agreement with the BMA on a standard format for GP Reports.  It will save time for GPs and ensure that only relevant information is used.  As insurers begin to use this new technology, consumers should find that their insurance applications are dealt with more quickly.”
