Cyber Risks and Cyber Opportunities

21 May 2014 10:30 (registration 10:00) - 17:30

ABI 7th Floor Conference Suite, 51 - 55 Gresham Street, London, EC2V 7HQ

The pace of global technological change presents businesses and especially insurers with enormous challenges and opportunities.

Set against the significant international developments represented by the global debate on privacy and the EU/U.S. trade negotiations, this seminar will focus on two areas:

  1. An update on where cyber opportunities are taking us
  2. A review of cyber risks and related data management issues

With insight from the government, business, cyber risk experts and the insurance industry, Sidley Austin and the ABI will examine the following themes:

Morning session: Setting the scene

  • Computers and the internet – enhancing productivity
  • Trends in connectivity and cloud computing
  • New technology

Afternoon session: Cyber risk and insurance

  • Developments in cyber insurance – what is being excluded, who is buying and what is the new scope of cover?
  • Impact of the new EU Cyber Directive, EU Data Protection Regulation and UK Government cyber security initiative
  • Cyber risks, system resilience and security – is failure predictable and avoidable, and can it be modeled?
  • Latest position on the EU/U.S. Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations as they relate to data and cyber risk
