Vehicle type and the cost of motor insurance

Your vehicle's make and model will affect the cost of your motor insurance.

For example, high-performance sports cars cost more to insure than family saloons.

Insurers use the Insurance Group Rating system to categorise vehicles into one of 50 groups according to their make, model, engine capacity and top speed.  The cost of your premium will partly depend on which group your vehicle falls into.

For more details go to the Insurance Group Rating section of the Thatcham (Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre) website
