Ben Howarth

Assistant Director, Head of Sustainability and Climate

Ben leads the ABI’s work on sustainability and the work of the Investment Delivery Forum. He drafted the ABI’s Climate Change Roadmap and the ABI’s DEI Blueprint and co-ordinates the ABI’s Climate Change working group.

He has worked on climate change since 2021 and became an Assistant Director in January 2025.

Between 2019 and 2021, he worked in the Director General’s office as DG Business Manager, supporting the DG with policy and market analysis. As part of this, he was part of the project team that launched the Covid-19 Support Fund. He was the ABI’s Brexit Manager during 2018, responsible for the industry’s for the ‘onshoring’ of EU financial services legislation into UK law. His first role at the ABI was as a policy adviser on Motor and Liability, focussing on automated driving, the ECJ Vnuk judgement, CMC regulation and road safety.

Ben began his career in an MP’s office, and his previous roles before joining the ABI including Research Manager at EUK Consulting and Operations Manager at DeHavilland.
