Chris Armistead

Assistant Director, Head of Legal Services

Chris leads the ABI’s Legal Team, overseeing the management of legal issues and risks (competition law, commercial contracts, data protection, compliance) and providing legal support to the ABI’s policy directorates on a range of issues. He has experience in managing complex litigation for the ABI (including judicial reviews and interventions in appeals to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court), advising on legal issues arising from significant policy interventions such as the Fire Safety Reinsurance Facility, and providing training on legal and regulatory matters.

Chris qualified as a solicitor in 2013 and spent his first five years as a lawyer in private practice, representing insurers in litigation. He moved to the ABI in 2014 and became Head of Legal in 2021. He also sits on the Practical Law Sector Consultation Board for Financial Institutions.
