M&G nurturing diverse talent through internal secondment programme

Our member firm M&G have developed Aspire, an internal career exploration and skills development programme, designed to identify, nurture and develop existing diverse talent. Thereby contributing towards our goal of more leadership positions in insurance and long-term savings being held by people from ethnically diverse backgrounds.

Identifying and Developing Diverse talent

The programme is open to everyone but targeted toward talented Black, Asian, and ethnic minority colleagues who want to explore the option of becoming leaders in new roles. It encourages internal mobility through 12-month secondments as career exploration opportunities.

As participants progress through the programme they receive coaching, mentoring and ongoing training. M&G provide the opportunity, time and focus the cohort need to shape and influence their career as they look to transition into vital customer and client-facing roles.

M&G DEI Case Study logo.pngM&G are now embarking on the 2023/24 cohort, where there are 11 secondment opportunities within the Asset Management and Retail and Savings team.

The successful candidates for this year’s programme will additionally benefit from the insights and mentoring from last year’s cohort – effectively paying forward the insights and knowledge gained from the programme.

At the ABI, we support initiatives like Aspire because they pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable workplace. By investing in the growth and development of colleagues from ethnic minority backgrounds, we are not only fostering diversity but also ensuring a rich pipeline of future leaders who bring varied perspectives and strengths to the table.

See our DEI Blueprint for more information on steps to achieve our goal of making our industry one of the most diverse and representative.
