This year has been like no other, and as our 2020 Annual Review shows, the ABI and our members have worked together to navigate this seismic year and provide support to customers, our employees and government through the crisis and beyond.
You can find details of these efforts, how we have delivered for members and customers this year, as well as our agenda for the year ahead here.
Director General, Huw Evans reflects on 2020 and shares his thoughts on the industry response to the Covid-19 crisis, as well as our work in driving forward long-term strategic priorities and securing key outcomes for members.
You can read Huw’s thoughts on how our purpose, ‘strength through association’ is more relevant than ever, here.
In 2020, the ABI was more active than ever in engaging with members, government and the media on key issues for the sector and as the Covid-19 pandemic unfolded, ensuring the voice of the sector was heard.
At the peak of the crisis our sector came together to support people in their hour of need, forming the Covid-19 Support Fund and raising over £100million for charitable causes throughout the UK.
Alongside this, insurance and long-term savings providers worked with the ABI to provide commitments on home, motor and travel insurance and protection to support customers and meet their changing needs
In a challenging year for the general insurance and health and protection markets, we have coordinated responses to the challenges of flooding, fire and fraud, as well as working to support businesses and the NHS through the pandemic.
As financial resilience, mental health and economic insecurity have become ever more present through the year, we have worked with members to drive forward our policy work across the long-term savings, protection and platforms landscape.
Throughout 2020, we have been working on behalf of members to engage with regulators on key areas of concern on prudential, conduct and taxation, as well as navigating at times challenging conversations with regulators on behalf of the sector.
