Diversity & Inclusion

In April we launched the Making Flexible Work campaign and Charter to increase all forms of flexible working in our sector – including job sharing – improve diversity and narrow the gender seniority gap. 27 members, plus the ABI, were signed up at launch and the campaign generated positive national and trade press coverage, including in the FT. It was also the ABI’s most successful campaign launch to date in terms of social media engagement with 60k impressions overall, and the campaign animation was viewed 13k times across LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Making Flexible Work was endorsed by Labour Markets Minister, Paul Scully MP, the EHRC, the Women and Work APPG and Amanda Blanc, Group CEO Aviva and HM Treasury’s Women in Finance Champion, amongst others. We are now running a new phase of this campaign that’s focussed on job sharing. As part of this we have delivered a Job Share Workshop for members, launched a Job Share Toolkit and developed external content including two short films about the benefits of job sharing for employers and employees. ABI members can still sign up by contacting D&I Campaigns Managers, Chloe Tait and Katy Murray.

We developed a Diversity and Inclusion Strategy informed by the latest data and covering key areas that members have told us are a priority. This includes increasing flexible working and reducing the gender seniority gap, improving socio-economic diversity and increasing Black, Asian and minority ethnic diversity. We further expanded our Talent and Diversity Network and held four network sessions attended by over 150 D&I and HR leads, featuring external speakers from organisations such as Timewise, Race Action Through Leadership and DuoMe. We also finalised the 2020 Diversity Data Collection, the results of which have been shared with participating members.
