Europe

We pressed hard on the importance of a (GDPR) data adequacy decision that would allow personal data to continue to flow to/from the UK/EU. A temporary bridging mechanism was included in the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) to give the European Commission time to finalise its decision, and in March the EC proposed a positive determination, which was agreed at the end of June.

The European Commission has now also published an Implementing Decision allowing the UK to re-join the Green Card Free Circulation Zone, meaning that from 2 August drivers will no longer be required to carry a Green Card when driving in the European Union. The decision follows five years of lobbying by the ABI, the Motor Insurers’ Bureau and other stakeholders, and is a positive outcome for members and consumers.
