Since its introduction in 2012, Automatic Enrolment has certainly proved successful, with over 9 million people being enrolled into pension saving. However the self-employed, who make up 15% of the UK workforce are missing out on the benefits of Automatic Enrolment, with only 12% of the self-employed saving into a pension.

The 2017 Automatic Enrolment Review established that there is currently no straightforward mechanism to bring self-employed individuals into pension saving. This two-day TechSprint event, hosted by the Association of British Insurers, the Department for Work and Pensions and Her Majesty’s Treasury, will bring together pension providers, government officials, FinTech organisations, regulators, self-employed engagers/agents, payment system providers, banks and self-employed individuals to consider how to better utilise existing and emerging touch points that self-employed individuals may have with their finances or financial services to help them save for later life.

The event will comprise of three main elements:

  • ‘Tech Talk’ expert panel discussion.
  • Two-day TechSprint team-based challenge to develop innovative, digital solutions to help improve retirement savings of self-employed individuals.
  • Presentation of teams’ ideas to the audience and judging by the expert panel.

Join us on the 26 & 27 March 2018 at the Aviva Digital Garage in London as we come together to make retirement saving easier for the self-employed. A pre-briefing for participants will be provided on 16 March.
