Kate Morley, Senior Research Leader, RAND

Kate Morley.jpgKate Morley (she/her) is a senior research leader at RAND Europe in the Health and Wellbeing Research Group. Prior to joining RAND in 2019, Morley spent over 15 years conducting health and medical research in the academic sector in both Australia and the United Kingdom. This included post-doctoral positions at the University of Melbourne, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, and University College London, and a faculty position at King’s College London Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience (IOPPN). She maintains honorary appointments at IOPPN and the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, the University of Melbourne.

Morley has a background in epidemiology and biostatistics, and in-depth understanding of a broad range of quantitative and qualitative research methodology, both from her own empirical research and from designing and delivering post-graduate methodology courses. She researches the intersection between mental health care and other sectors (e.g. criminal justice, transport). Recent research includes: substance use by people detained under the Mental Health Act, the impact of Liaison and Diversion services, and physical health inequalities of people who use illicit drugs. However, she is broadly interested in the use of cross-sector data linkage approaches for health services research and the evaluation of complex interventions. Morley holds a Ph.D. in population health, Grad. Cert. in health economics, B.Sc. (Hons) in genetics, and B.A. in history.
