ABI RDR conference Keeping customers at the heart of RDR reform

Speaking today at the ABI's conference on the Future of Retail Distribution in Financial Services, ABI Director General Stephen Haddrill said:

"The RDR provides an opportunity to benefit generations of consumers by helping them to make adequate provision for their financial needs. It can also play a vital role in reversing the savings and protection gap in Britain. The need for consumers to receive advice and guidance has never been greater. The next six months in particular are an important chance for long-term reform.

"Consumers only see one financial services industry and providers, advisers and regulators need to work together to build confidence and trust. All parts of the distribution chain must work together to take forward the programme for reform."

Also speaking at the conference was Dan Waters, Director of Retail Policy and Themes from the FSA and Chris Cummings, Director General of AIFA.

The conference was attended by 130 delegates from the across the financial services industry, and aims to take forward the FSA's proposals to improve consumers' experiences when buying products from the financial services industry.
