The ABI has commissioned the Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion (CESI) to undertake research and produce a report on society’s income protection needs, and the potential to increase use of protection insurance to build financial resilience.
The project will provide a thorough and robust evidence base and analysis covering:
- The nature and scale of the problem with the status quo
- The nature and number of households currently at risk
- The impact of having protection insurance vs. no protection insurance if someone has to stop working due to serious illness or injury (with a range of real life case studies to illustrate)
- The challenges to be overcome in increasing use of private protection insurance (including awareness, attitudes, beliefs, behaviours, access, incentives)
- Policy options for change, including through the workplace
We expect to launch the report in April/May 2014.
