Governments Repair and Renew grant scheme opens today

The Government's new flood repair and renew grant scheme has opened today.

Commenting on the scheme, Aidan Kerr, Assistant Director & Head of Property at the Association of British Insurers, said:

"The industry welcomes measures such as the Government’s Repair and Renew Grant, which opens today, as a way to help homeowners and businesses minimise the damage, disruption and trauma they face if flooded.  This is why insurers already discuss with their customers ways to incorporate flood resilient and resistant measures into insurance repairs where possible. However, often these measures can come at an extra cost to the customer, so the Government’s grant should offer welcome assistance to those who want to make their home or business more flood resilient.

"To ensure that as many people benefit from the grant as possible we want to see local councils taking as pragmatic a view as possible when assessing applications. We also want to see all applications assessed quickly so the repair process is not unduly delayed.

"Homeowners of course can only do so much to reduce the flood risk. The recent wettest winter on record is further evidence of the importance of sustained, ambitious and targeted investment in building new and maintaining existing flood defences, as well as avoiding building in flood prone areas.”
