New insurance guide for volunteers launched

The ABI is supporting the launch of a new insurance guide for individuals and organisations outlining the risks of volunteering.

The guide has been produced jointly by the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) and the Volunteer Liaison Group, consisting of the ABI,  Money Advice Service,  Community Matters, The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services, The National Council for Volunteering England and BIBA.

An ABI spokesman said:

"Volunteers do much good work in our communities.  By helping individual volunteers, voluntary groups and charities identify and reduce potential risks, and by providing insurance protection, the insurance industry is playing an important role in encouraging a healthy vibrant voluntary sector.

"As well as helping volunteers, we have also produced a guide to help trustees of charities (pdf 690kB) identify and manage their potential liabilities associated with their role."
