Storm Frank advice and reassurance from the ABI

With the next bout of bad weather – Storm Frank – predicted to hit parts of the UK later today and tomorrow, with high winds and further heavy rain forecast, the ABI advises customers to:

  • Heed any warnings from the emergency services and the Environment Agency.
  • Remove any debris or loose items from outside your home while it is safe to do so.
  • If you have a garage, put your car in it, or avoid parking near trees and other objects that could become unstable.
  • Be prepared for power cuts by having a torch and blanket to hand.
  • If at risk of flooding try and move valuable items and personal possessions upstairs or store them higher up.
  • If further bad weather strikes, contact your insurer as soon as possible. They will have emergency helplines to give immediate advice, including any temporary repairs that may be needed.

Mark Shepherd, ABI’s Manager, General Insurance, said:Mark Shepherd

“Bouts of bad weather seem to be queuing up to hit parts of the UK at the moment so insurers remain ready and able to help homeowners and businesses pick up the pieces if bad weather strikes. Keeping a close eye on weather forecasts and official warnings should help us all be as prepared as possible.”
