ABI responds to DVSA consultation on driving test

Commenting on the ABI’s response to the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency’s consultation on improving practical driving test closing today, Ben Howarth, ABI Motor Policy Adviser said:

“The DVSA is right to be reviewing current driving tests to make sure that it is modern, relevant and ensure new drivers are well prepared for Britain’s roads. However while their proposals are a step in the right direction, they are also a missed opportunity.

"With nearly 3,500 fatal or serious road accidents occurring every year involving at least one young driver, we need more ambitious proposals in the form of Graduated Driver Licensing to protect both young drivers and those already on the road. Many countries around the world have adopted Graduated Driver Licensing and have seen a significant improvement in the safety record of young drivers as a result .”
