ABI advice on Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma has caused damage and disruption to parts of the Caribbean and Florida. Anyone in the region or planning to visit the region should check with their tour operator or airline, keep up to date with travel advice from the Foreign Office: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/usa and follow any local authority advice, including evacuation orders.

Anyone directly affected is advised to contact their tour operator, travel agent or travel insurer for assistance. Some travel insurance policies may provide cover for travel disruption, for example additional accommodation costs, if help is not already provided by tour operators.

While some travel insurance policies may cover cancellation if the Government advises against it, you may not be covered if you decide against travelling to your destination  when there is no advice not to do so. Where alternative travel arrangements are made you can usually transfer your travel insurance to cover new dates. Policyholders should speak directly to their insurer if they have any questions.
