The HCLG committee has released a report on building regulations and fire safety, covering hearings it conducted in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire. ABI Director General Huw Evans was among those who gave evidence to the committee. Commenting on the committee’s report he said:
“It is good to see the HCLG Committee agrees with our call for a comprehensive ban on the use of combustible materials on the outside of buildings, and that it backs the more widespread use of sprinklers. In particular, the report says a new testing regime which better reflects real world conditions should be established, which chimes exactly with our own recommendations after the alarming findings of our research into the building standard tests. Action must now be taken swiftly so residents and businesses can be given peace of mind that their properties are safe.”
