Brexit and Green Cards

Responding to the news that drivers from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland will not require a Green Card, ABI said:

“We welcome the co-operation between the UK Government and the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland on Green Cards. This shows that pragmatic steps can be taken to minimise the negative impact on millions of UK and EU motorists, which is entirely avoidable. Now it’s time for the European Commission to do the right thing and agree to the UK’s membership of the Free Circulation Zone post-Brexit. However, the current situation still means that in the event of a no-deal Brexit then Northern Irish motorists will need to carry valid green cards for their vehicles if they are driving in the Republic or elsewhere in the European Union after October 31. They should get prepared now and ask their insurance providers to supply green cards.”
