The Minister for Water and Flooding, Emma Hardy MP, has issued a statement on the government's consultation setting out a reformed approach to investing in flood resilience and coastal erosion.
In response, Louise Clark, Manager of General Insurance Policy at the ABI, said:
“Adapting and building resilience to the changing climate is essential, and it’s right that government has recognised that this is key to economic growth and its plan for change.
“Flooding is becoming more frequent and extreme. So while consultations on reforming the approach to investing in flood resilience and coastal erosion are important, substantial and sustained investment has to be at its core.
“Our industry and communities across the country need confidence in the resilience of our flood defences. We urge government to commit to substantial and long-term investment in such important infrastructure within its upcoming Spending Review and 10 Year Infrastructure Strategy."
