Aasmah Mir, Broadcaster, Times Radio

Aasmah Mir.jpgAasmah Mir is a Sony Gold Award-winning broadcaster with a distinguished 25-year career in TV and radio. Born and raised in Glasgow of Pakistani heritage, Aasmah secured her first job at 22 years of age as a newsreader at STV in Glasgow. A law graduate from Bristol University, Aasmah moved to Radio 5 Live in 2001, working across the station before moving to present ‘Drive’ with Peter Allen in 2010. The show won a Sony Gold Award in both 2011 and 2012.

Aasmah left Radio 5 Live in 2012 and joined BBC Radio 4 where she co-presented ‘Saturday Live‘ from 2014 to 2020, attracting more than 2 million listeners every weekend. 

Aasmah is also a familiar face on TV from presenting and reporting on landmark events for BBC 1, which include the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (2019), Hay Festival (2019), The Centenary of Votes for Women (2018) and The Battle of Jutland Remembered (2016). Aasmah has also reported on the 2015 and 2017 General Elections for ITV and co-presented ‘Scotland Decides’, the station’s programme for the 2014 Scottish independence referendum.

Aasmah spent time reporting for ITV’s Tonight programme between 2013-2918 and reviewed the papers for the ‘Lorraine’ show. 

Away from journalism, Aasmah appeared on ‘Celebrity Mastermind’ in 2015 on BBC1 and won, while in 2012 she launched Cracking Curries with her sister on YouTube showing beginners how to cook simple and authentic Pakistani food.
