ABI Alumni Chloe Woodhead blogs on how working at the ABI helped her progress her career

I am Chloe Woodhead and I worked at the ABI for 10 years from 2005 to 2015. I started as an HR Assistant and then progressed to HR Adviser. I am now HR Manager at Centor Insurance and Risk Management, a small, independent insurance broker in the City.

The best thing about working at the ABI was the people. One of the advantages of working in HR is that you are involved in recruiting these individuals so get to watch them progress in their careers. I had some fantastic colleagues at the ABI who I really enjoyed working with and learnt so much from.

My career highlight has actually been really recently, working on ‘Great Places to Work’ and ‘Investors in People’ accreditations at Centor. Both projects are focused on employee engagement and involve staff surveys and audits of workplace culture and practices. We have recently found out that Centor gained the highest level of Platinum standard for their Investors in People accreditation which is a huge achievement. We find out later this year where we come in the Great Places to Work list!

My best memories from the ABI are working with and learning from my colleague, Anne, who was not only a great boss and colleague but also became a very close friend. And of course, the social events! The annual Pétanque championship and the Christmas parties are events that I miss!

Working at the ABI allowed me to learn so much about the insurance industry and how it has an impact on everyone and everything. When I left the ABI, I wanted a new challenge and being in a small team meant I had gained exposure to all areas of the HR service and function. This experience was essential in finding my next role as a standalone HR professional at Centor.
