Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials is a basic cyber security hygiene standard to help organisations of all sizes protect themselves against common cyber-attacks. Cyber Essentials is mandatory for businesses working on central government contracts which involve handling personal information and certain IT services. Available in two levels, Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus, the assessments provide an identifiable certification to demonstrate that your business adheres to government standards.

Cyber Security Information Sharing Partnership (CiSP)

The CiSP is a joint industry-government initiative set up to exchange cyber threat information in a confidential environment, increasing situational awareness & reducing the impact on UK business. It is a free-to-join service. Members vary from large multi-nationals to SMEs across sectors, and the platform enables all participants to share cyber threat information. This helps increase the overall situational awareness of the cyber threat and therefore reduce the impact on UK businesses.

Cyber Resilience Centre Network

The Cyber Resilience Centre Network coordinates regional cyber resilience centres across the UK aimed at supporting SMEs and regional businesses improve their cyber resilience and protect themselves from cyber-attacks.

Police CyberAlarm

Police CyberAlarm is a free tool to help organisations understand and monitor malicious cyber activity against their network through monitoring and vulnerability scanning. Police CyberAlarm will detect and provide regular reports of suspicious cyber activity, enabling businesses or organisations to identify and take steps to minimise vulnerabilities.

The National Cyber Security Centre

The National Cyber Security Centre has produced a range of advice, guidance and support to assist businesses and organisations with cyber security:

  • Small Business Guide - The Small Business Guide provides entry level guidance to assist small businesses or charities implement basic cyber security controls with little to no cost.
  • National Cyber Security Centre Actions List - The Actions List helps small businesses record and clearly identify the actions from the small business guide.
  • Response & Recovery Guide - The Response & Recovery Guide helps small to medium sized organisations prepare their response to and plan their recovery from a cyber incident.
  • Exercise in a Box - The Exercise in a Box service helps your organisation find out how resilient you are to a cyber-attack & practice your response in a safe environment.
  • Top Tips for Staff - Top Tips for Staff is an e-learning package which introduces why cyber security is important and how attacks can happen, covering four key areas: defending against phishing, using strong passwords, securing your devices, and reporting incidents.
  • Early Warning - The Early Warning service informs organisations of threats against their networks by delivering feeds of the following types of threat information: incident notification, network abuse events and vulnerability alerts. Early Warning complements your existing threat intelligence products and should not be used in isolation.
